Iran and Israel have fought a deadly shadow war for decades. The two enemies have relied on proxy forces, assassinations, and strikes abroad to hit each other. AdvertisementA decades-long shadow war between Iran and Israel has been thrust into broad daylight. Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel last weekend has notably changed the dynamics of this conflict, and it's now more dangerous. Any Israeli military response to the attack risks an all-out confrontation with Iran and could plunge the region into even more violence.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville has reached an agreement with College of Charleston coach Pat Kelsey to become the Cardinals’ next men’s basketball coach, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. Kenny Payne, a first-time head coach, was fired by Louisville on March 13 after going 12-52 the last two seasons at his alma mater. It marked the worst two-year stretch in the storied program's history and capped its third consecutive losing season after missing the NCAA Tournament in 2021. But unlike Payne, Kelsey brings experience and a record of coaching success at Charleston and Winthrop. Kelsey previously worked as a Wake Forest assistant and Xavier associate head coach.

While most patients pay out of pocket, AMC offers multiple initiatives to cover charity care, especially for rescue animals and working dogs. That was essentially the Nvidia CEO's message for students at his alma mater, Stanford University, where he spoke last week at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. When it comes to achieving success, Huang knows more than most. At last week's event, he told Stanford students how he personally developed the resilience necessary to build and run one of the world's most valuable companies. "To this day I use the phrase 'pain and suffering' inside our company with great glee," Huang told the Stanford students. With that in mind, Huang told a newer batch of undergrads last week that he hopes they experience their own character-building struggles: "For all of you Stanford students, I wish upon you ample doses of pain and suffering."

Nvidia boss Jensen Huang told Stanford students that success is earned through suffering. The billionaire told students people with high expectations generally have low resilience. "I think one of my great advantages is that I have very low expectations," Huang, who graduated with a master's degree from Stanford in 1992 and is now worth around $80 billion, responded. Among the scattered notes taped to the door of the Irish author Colum McCann’s home office in Manhattan is a photograph of James Foley, the American journalist who was murdered by members of the Islamic State in August 2014. But Foley missed the message. She was busy creating the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, an organization focused on protecting journalists and ensuring the freedom of Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad. Then, in 2021, McCann and Foley found themselves on the same Zoom call. It was for a Marquette University book club; the group was reading another of McCann’s novels, “Apeirogon,” and Marquette was James Foley’s alma mater, so his mother had been invited.

From The Searle Freedom TrustThis year, the Searle trust is poised to play an even bigger role as it empties out its coffers. Researchers who study political nonprofits say that the Searle trust has had a major impact, even as the Searle family has stayed under the radar compared to more well-known conservative benefactors. The Searle trust is one of the most prolific funders of conservative groups among all private foundations, according to a CNN analysis of nonprofit tax data. The Searle trust has given millions to the Foundation for Government Accountability, which has worked behind the scenes to push conservative policies such as stricter voting laws. Stefanik has often explained it herself: She saw Trump’s popularity in her upstate New York district and got on board. That first impeachment proceeding made her a “Republican star,” as Trump himself said at the time. A neutron star is the collapsed core of a supergiant star that's gone supernova. Pulsar neutron stars, like the one astronomers believe SN 1987A left behind, emit pulses of X-rays. To the Editor:Re “How to Save a Sad, Lonely, Angry and Mean Society,” by David Brooks (column, Jan. 28):As a published author married to a writer/filmmaker, I deeply appreciated Mr. Brooks’s column. It pains me to witness the modern-day devaluation of the arts and humanities. When I was a child, my art history major mother dragged me to many of the world’s great museums: the National Gallery of Art, the Met, the Louvre. I may have protested after the first hour, but certain works left indelible impressions: the terrifying passion of Klimt’s “Kiss,” the seductive movement of the Calder mobile. Likewise, literature plunged me into different perspectives.

(AP) — Mississippi's state auditor filed court papers Monday renewing his call for Brett Favre to repay the state for welfare money that the auditor says was improperly spent on projects backed by the retired NFL quarterback. White said in 2020 that Favre had improperly received $1.1 million in speaking fees from a nonprofit organization that spent welfare with approval from the Mississippi Department of Human Services. The money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program was to go toward a volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi. “Favre had no legal right to the possession or control of this $1.1 Million,” White's attorneys wrote in the court filing Monday. No criminal charges have been brought against Favre, although a former department director and other people have pleaded guilty to their part in the misspending.

Israel and Hezbollah each have lessons from their last war, in 2006, a monthlong conflict that ended in a draw. A United Nations resolution ending the war called for withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon and a demilitarized zone on Lebanon's side of the border. Israeli political and military leaders have warned Hezbollah that war is increasingly probable unless the militants withdraw from the border. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah hasn't threatened to initiate war but warned of a fight “without limits” if Israel does. Costs would rise sharply if there's war with Lebanon.

In Indonesia, sitting presidents are allowed to campaign for candidates provided they do not use state resources and take official leave to do so, but incumbents have typically remained neutral. The furore has prompted Jokowi to repeatedly clarify his stance and even show reporters print-outs of the election law to clear his name. "Some of our campaign activities were indeed cancelled or not permitted by various local governments...and non-governmental entities, which likely were influenced by those in power," said Ade Chandra, a campaign spokesperson for rival presidential candidate Anies Baswedan. There are few aspects of America’s past that haven’t been impacted by conscientious Black people and their resistance to systemic racism and illiberal democracy.
